Thumbs down Maxtor Central Axis Server

This is the 1TB, single drive unit. In a nutshell, I'm returning it after using it for one week. Very disappointed. I should have heeded the cautions in so many reviews.

What I liked:

5 year warranty.

Back up software included, that's not Memeo.

Able to backup server files to USB disk.

It looks nice, but I really could care less.

What I didn't like:

Web admin is very slow to respond to basic commands, even when there is no other LAN traffic. I've used a comparable Buffalo NAS and the CA was excruciatingly slow. When I tried to used the web admin when any traffic was going to or from the CA it was a total joke, taking 30-45 seconds to just display the screen. Come on Maxtor/Seagate you can do a lot better.

Included backup software is waaaay over simplified. Can't backup program folders. Can't click a second drive to backup, must click each folder.

Configuration is too confusing for a home-oriented NAS. It's not too sophisticated, it's just very poorly designed.

Drive really, really runs hot.

Power saving function doesn't work no matter what the setting.

I bought it for $200, I guess it may be priced fair for a super-basic home NAS. But, I think their are better options in that price range.
