Yes, there is a DS209+. I think this is just a collision in Synology's naming scheme. The new model is DS209, which isn't in the current line-up. All the other models are new. Check the model comparison chart.

There is some interest information here: http://www.synology-forum.de/forumdisplay.html?f=22. The site is German, but the datasheets are in English.

Thanks, fullroast. Good info.

The 1.2GHz CPU Clock rate says to me that the DS109 and 209 use the Marvell Kirkwood 88F6281 that I found in the Buffalo LinkStation Pro XHL.

1.06 GHz clock rate for the DS409+ and 509+ and rackmount versions seems to point to Intel Core 2 Duo U7500 / 1.06 GHz.

Correction: Synology says the 1.06 GHz processor is a Freescale MPC8533.

I thought it is Freescale 8543 CPU 1.06GHz in stead of the x86 architecture.

Cheers,

Hi Thiggins:
Thanks for the correction and the new forum for Synology in SMB.

The Freescale processor is upgraded from 800Mhz to 1.06GHz for 09+ series NAS. We also replace Marvell 5281 platform with the new 1.2GHz 88F6281.

In brief, the Freescale processor has better multimedia processing power over 6281 (with the hardware FPU and 64bit memory bus bandwidth over 6281 16bit bus) in addtion to high performance IO and engery saving.

The upgraded 6281 CPU clock rate will help IO performance much better than the predecessor Marvell 5281/5182 platform.
