Confused 1000 wireless users in a single conference space

I've been asked to provide wireless access in a conference hall to ~1000 users who will connect to a server hosted locally.

The space is a large room with high ceiling & no line of sight obstructions. I will be able to hang APs from the ceiling if necessary. Data should be fairly light, no Voip or video streaming. The big issue from what I can gather is the number of simultaneous users.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there is no practical way to do this with consumer equipment, right?

What would I need to pull this off? A Xirrus XR-4###?

Thanks for your time
Ed

Get professional help to do this. Correct, consumer equipment will not do it.

Cisco (not Linksys) and Aruba are two big players in this space.

We use Cisco, Ruckus and Motorola enterprise class APs. One of the keys to doing this correctly over the long term is the need for sophisticated wireless controllers that can constantly monitor and update the APs to adjust for RF environment fluctuations. Not that one can't do a proper site survey and manually configure each AP to operate with a specific power level and channel assignment (we've done a number of those), its just that with that many simultaneous users with that much RF energy the good controllers can help maximize the total network system operation and performance. I concur that you should seek professional assistance with this one. Good luck!

Is this one day shot or would this be used on a regular bases? If the second you need professionals to come in and setup the gear. I don't use off shelve products they can't even do 31 WiFi Client Sessions. More for SOHO not SMB and you'l need a couple AP in that room. Again Professional Network Services need to get out there and give you a written free estimate for this project!

Xirrus and Ruckus are also pretty good in this venue.
