Connect two HomePlug adaptors in "ad hoc" mode?

Hi

I'm looking to connect two Powerline or HomePlug adaptors in an "ad hoc" arrangement, but am unsure if this is possible.

Is it possible to follow the same procedures in Wifi to create such an "ad hoc" pair?

I'm trying to connect two media boxes, not PCs, each with an ethernet port. They've software which permits sharing of content on hard drives connected to them, provided both are on the same network.

There's no such thing as "ad-hoc" for homeplug adapters. Set them up as instructed between the two media boxes, and all should work normally.

The instructions may include sample layouts that include a router, but it doesn't mean that a router is required.

It doesn't matter which sort of devices the homeplugs are connecting. The connection the homeplugs make with each other is completely transparent to any ethernet device.

If the instructions for your media boxes say they only have to network to each other to work, then you're good to go with the setup instructions included with the homeplugs.
