Hardware offload?

i never understood hardware offload on tcp/udp. what does it do? or what difference will it make? what kind of things will be improved? if i turn it off, what will happen? thanx in advance guys.

Maybe you want to read this first: TCP offload engine.

THEN you might ask more specific questions about the 'TCP offload engine or TOE is a technology used in network interface cards (NIC) to offload processing of the entire TCP/IP stack to the network controller'.
