WD Live 2TB Speed Expectations

I got an 2TB WDL drive for x-mas, upon setting it up and use Lan test to benchmark the speeds I am a bit disappointed, but after read the WDL forums and some Google research my expectations may be too high, please let me know, config is as follows:

Wireless N network
WNDR 3700 router

Computer 1 connected at 150Mbps, I get transfer rates ~3.5 Mb/s
Computer 2 connected at 300Mbps, I get transfer rates ~7 Mb/s

Are those slow or normal given I am wireless?

I have tried a ton of troubleshooting but nothing really helps. The only thing I have not done is SSH into the WDL and make conf changes as some posts on the WDL forums suggested -- there is no one consistent setting change it's all over the place. Before I go this route wanted to see if my expectations are too high I was hoping wireless to get ~10Mb/s or more.

Assuming your rates are in MegaBytes/sec, not Megabits, the throughputs aren't unreasonable.

Have you benchmarked wired transfers?

What is the distance between wireless client and router?

Yes that is in MegaBytes/sec. The client and router are 10 feet apart or so in a different room. Should the rates be higher or is that "normal".

I would say the results aren't surprising.

Run Ethernet-based transfers to see what the maximum possible performance is.

Big file transfers via WiFi... always a small fraction of the data rate that a wired 10/100/1000 connection can provide. Best rate you will see is transferring one big file, like 500MB. Better yet, two transfers concurrently, even on same (fast) PC; you'll see the sum of the two is markedly faster than one stream- due to overhead in all parts of the software and WiFi. Even better if two PCs, one big transfer each.

Wireless = convenience and mobility, not performance!
