Regarding the N66U there are numbers of choices regarding firmware and versions. I myself prefer atoUSB Shibby on the N66U but my AC66U is another
thing just waiting for a version with a stable Broadcom driver and Asus making
advertisment for newer AC-models when there is still issues with the firmware . I canĘt understand how Asus are thinking ....

I disagree. RT-N66U users have the option of using 220.127.116.11.270 release which was stable - it's only a beta release that has stability issues. The RT-AC56U and AC68U won't have that luxury, since they are working on getting a first firmware version ready for their release.
It's not as if the RT-N66U didn't have any stable FW release to revert back to - it does.
