Default Wireless router with USB3 ports

Based on your experience or readings, what is "the best" available high end router with USB3 ports on it ?

Thanks,

GH

There was another topic the other day about USB 3.0 on a router and the concensus was that there is no use with 3.0 on most routers.

The router hardware won't be able to utilize the speed, usually routers won't even max out USB 2.0 devices. Also USB 3.0 seems to interfere with 2,4 GHz WiFi.

Amped Wireless Has announced that they will have USB3.0 802.11ac adapters (at CES). USB3 will be able to take full advantage of the 802.11ac speeds.

They may have that on thier routers for USB sharing but I'm not quite sure. I would expect that though.

I don't see why routers would not max out USB2 devices ?

USB 2.0 is 480 Mbit/s as far as I know, how many routers even have that throughput WAN-LAN? If they could handle it on USB, how come they don't handle it on WAN/LAN transfers?

not a wirespeed issue. The use of the file system overhead for a USB drive, especially NTFS rather than a Linux file system, limits the transfer speeds. Takes much more CPU power than in a typical router to cope.

One thing I know is that I have a better throughput when using my NAS (a WD MyBookLive) than when using my USB drive connected to the RT-N66U.

WiFi routers with attached USB disks are for very light duty.
