Hi Tim,

During your original review of the TS-119 Turbo NAS you had an issue with formatting an external drive connected to the eSATA port in ext3 mode.

Have you been able to revisit this? I'm very keen to see your benchmark performance figures for backup to a drive fomatted in ext3 connected via eSATA, so I can compare with the TS-239 Pro in particular.

I have a TS-409 at the moment that is overkill in terms of disk/RAID support, but is woefully deficient in backup performance (meaning I'm less inclined to do it as often as I should).

I've read your latest "How to buy a NAS" article and concur that for my purposes having better/faster backup capability is more important drive redundancy.

It's a pity the Buffalo Linkstation Pro XHL falls short for backup (no eSATA and slow via USB) otherwise I think that would have been my next investment.

Many thanks for your site which is great resource.

Regards

Cliff

Sorry, Cliff, but no. I return the products when I'm done testing. I haven't encountered any formatting problems, however, on the subsequent QNAPs that I've reviewed. So my guess is that it was an issue that has since been resolved.

OK Thanks Tim,

Please can anyone else provide feedback on average data transfer rate they get backing up to an eSATA drive formatted in ext3 using the TS-119.

Thanks
